Saint Lucian Athletes Deliver in Martinique

Saint Lucia Sports Academy and Mon Repos Athletics Academy pole vaulters and athletes delivered in Martinique, last weekend. The group consisted of Naya Jules, Clint Dickson and Arthur-Lee William from Saint Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) and Rashid James and Jeremiah Felix from the Mon Repos Athletics Academy.

Jeremiah Felix, Junior Sportsman of the Year Nominee, won the men’s pole vault with a clearance and new personal best of 4.60m / 15’1”. Jeremiah met the qualification times for the CARIFTA Games in Bahamas this Easter, where he will be in Gold Medal contention.

Joining Jeremiah in qualifying for the CARIFTA Games was Arthur-Lee William from the SLSA. Arthur-Lee cleared a new personal best at 3.60m on the day.

Clint Dickson of SLSA vaulted 2.70m. The Form II student continues to build his experience towards a 2024 CARIFTA campaign and is among the best junior athletes that the country has produced.

Naya Jules, also an SLSA student-athlete demonstrated her readiness for the inaugural women’s pole vault competition at CARIFTA this year. Naya finished the day with a 25cm personal improvement with a 2.70m / 8’10”; to tie her winning height for a second-place finish, on misses.

She then went on to win and set new personal bests in the javelin (37.17m) and discus (21.63m) and attain a new personal best in the long jump.

Rashid James of Mon Repos Athletics Academy set a new personal best in the 200m and competed in the high jump. The 2022 CARIFTA Games Pole Vault 4th-place finisher has expanded his events this offseason while removing from a shoulder injury sustained during the CARIFTA Games in Kingston.

The team was accompanied by SLSA Coach Andy Behl from and assisted by Coach Yandra Victorine from Mon Repos Athletics Academy.

The management team acknowledges the support from the Ministry of Education and Cox and Company Ltd. for their support of the trip for these student-athletes, as well as the parents and families of the athletes.

The group aimed to come back with personal bests and qualification marks for the 2023 edition of the CARIFTA Games, and the job was completed.

Men’s Pole Vault –

Jeremiah Felix – 4.60m – Personal Best. CARIFTA Qualifier. Event Winner; Arthur-Lee William – 3.60m – Personal Best. CARIFTA Qualifier; and Clint Dickson – 2.70m.

Women’s Pole Vault –

Naya Jules – 2.70m – Personal Best – CARIFTA Qualifier – Event Winner.

Women’s Javelin –

Naya Jules – 37.17m – Personal Best. Event Winner.

Women’s Discuss –

Naya Jules – 21.63m – Personal Best. Event Winner.

Women’s Long Jump –

Naya Jules – 4.60m – Personal Best.

Men’s 200M –

Arthur- Lee William – 23.28 seconds; Rashid James – 23.35 seconds. Personal Best.
