Saint Lucia’s ace sprinter Julien Alfred showcased her talent by finishing second in the 100m at the Wanda Diamond League held in Silesia, Poland, on August 23, 2026. She clocked in at a season-best 10.83 seconds, narrowly missing first place to world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who secured victory.

Alfred’s strong performance reinforces her rising dominance in sprinting and highlights the intensifying competitiveness in women’s track events.
Jefferson-Wooden ended Alfred’s unbeaten season in the women’s 100m at the Silesia Diamond League, finishing with a time of 10.78 seconds at Stadion Śląski in Chorzów, Poland. Running from lane five with a legal +0.6m/s tailwind, the reigning world champion matched her season’s best and finished just 0.05 seconds ahead of Alfred.
This encounter marked their first meeting over 100m since last year’s world final in Tokyo, where Jefferson-Wooden clinched victory with a championship record of 10.61 seconds and Alfred took home bronze in 10.84 seconds.
Prior to this race, Alfred, the Paris 2024 Olympic 100m champion, was unbeaten this season.
“Running in a race of this quality feels amazing; I missed it a lot,” Alfred remarked afterward. “Melissa is an exceptional athlete and deserves a lot of respect. I still have Zurich, the 200m in Brussels, and the 100m at the Ultimate Championships to look forward to. I hope to improve in Zurich. It’s just the beginning; if I can perform better there, I can win. There’s still a lot to work on.”
In a tightly contested finish for third place, both Richardson and Brianna Lyston clocked in at 10.96 seconds, but Richardson was awarded the position following a photo finish review. The double Olympic medallist had arrived in the race with the fastest season best at 10.77 seconds but finished almost two-tenths off that mark, while Lyston came within 0.02 seconds of her own personal best.
