Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, through his legal representative Fosters, has warned Unitedpac Saint Lucia to retract statements it has made against him on the social media platform Facebook or face legal proceedings.

Fosters, Thursday, wrote to Unitedpac referencing certain libelous publications against the prime minister found on Unitedpac’s Facebook page.

“On examination of the Facebook page Unitedpac Saint Lucia we have observed that you have failed to disclose the identity and addresses of the administrators/managers of the page. The page purports to be a Media/News Company but again, despite diligent  searches at the Companies Registry in Saint Lucia we have discovered that there is no such company, nor business entity registered. The Facebook page publication as a media/news company is also in violation of the laws of Saint Lucia as you have failed to provide the identity of and the address of the publishers of news/media company. We have therefore deduced that you have deliberately failed to disclose the identity of those  who publish and disseminate the publications you make on the aforesaid Facebook page,” Fosters’ letter to Unitedpac stated.

“We have also noted that the vast number of those who ‘share’ your libelous post do so under fictitious Facebook accounts under pseudonyms. Of course, this reveals the lack of credibility of those who actively participate in the writing and dissemination of the articles on this Facebook page under false names and accounts and who are concerned in this  campaign to try to damage the good name of our client,” further stated the letter.

The letter went on to highlight what it termed libelous comments, statements and photos published last month on Unitedpac’s Facebook page about Prime Minister Pierre.

According to Fosters, the statements published by Unitedpac were unfounded, false, malicious and designed to damage the reputation of the prime minister.

“Our client therefore demands that you immediately retract and remove all and every one of the libelous publications posted on your Facebook page referred to above. You are to also reveal the identity of the authors of these false publications. Your failure to do so will result in a report being made to Meta Corporation, Facebook and Google complaining of the illicit use of their domain. As you must know, you are required to disclose the true identity of the administrators of your Facebook page.

“If you fail to retract and remove the offending defamatory post/publications referred to above, our client will take all necessary steps to institute legal proceedings against you to vindicate his reputation and hold accountable all those who are involved in this illicit and malicious attack on his reputation, character and credibility.

“You are also warned that anyone who shares or repeats these false allegations are liable  as publishers of defamatory allegations,” warned Fosters’ letter to Unitedpac.
