SLFA Island Super Cup kicks off November 1st

Eight teams are down to compete in the 2022 Island Super Cup organised by the SLFA Inc., which is expected to kick off on November 1st.

The participating district league teams are as follows: Anse la Raye, Babonneau, Choiseul, Laborie, Micoud, Roseau, South Castries and Soufriere.

Matches will be played on Tuesdays, at the Desruisseaux Playing Field and the Soufriere Mini Stadium.

The opening fixtures is as follows;

Laborie vs. Choiseul – 6.15 pm – Desruisseaux

Soufriere vs. Micoud – 8.15 pm –

South Castries vs. Babonneau – 6.15 pm – Soufriere Mini Stadium

Anse La Raye vs. Roseau – 8.15.

Meanwhile, the SLFA Inc. is getting set to host San Marino in two International Friendlies at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on November 17 and 20.

On November 17 the match will commence at 6.00 pm; while the November 20 game is due to start at 4.00p.m.

The SLFA states that admission to the games will be $20.00, however, patrons can benefit by paying $30.00 to gain entrance to view both games.

The SLFA’s Inc. has set up an organising committee to manage the Friendlies under the chairmanship of General Secretary Victor Reid. To date the committee has met to put mechanisms in place for the successful hosting of both games.

In the meantime, Team St. Lucia continues its preparation for the Friendlies with training sessions at the Technical Centre on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm.

The training squad, which consists of local players have been putting in the work and showing keen interest to give a good account of themselves.

An SLFA official stated that San Marino will utilize these ‘Friendlies’ as preparation for participation for the Euro 2024 Qualifiers which begins in March 2023.

San Marino is placed in Group H alongside Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, and Northern Ireland.

In further updates, the SLFA Inc. continues to build capacity amongst its affiliates with the staging of another D’Licence Football Coaching Course for the Eastern zone.

The Course is due to run from November 2 to 6, and will target approximately 25 male and female coaches from Mabouya Valley, Dennery, Mon Repos, Micoud, and Desruisseaux.

Some of the topics to be covered include; Principles of Play, Child Safe Guarding, Periodization, Technical and Tactical Training. Sessions will run from 9.00 am – 3.00 pm.

The Course will be facilitated by Instructors, John Sealy, Sabattus Hunte and Terrence Caroo. SLFA officials Solomon Alexander, Emmanuel Bellas and Cyril Ces Pod will provide additional support.

Following the initial phase of the course, participants will undergo a second phase where they will participate in three practical sessions, which form part of the assessment before they could be fully certified.
