Premier League Cup Matches in Full Swing

Matches in the Scotts Sports and Awards / SLFA Inc. Premier Cup continued Tuesday, at the Gros Islet playing field.

While an earlier encounter at the grounds, between Central Castries and Canaries had to be called off for electrical failures, due to a faulty transformer- however, in the next match, Gros Islet edged past Dennery 2-1.

The home team’s goal scorers were Aaron Richard and Raphael Joseph in the 5th and 88th minutes respectively, with Dennery’s lone goal scored by Jamie Prospere in the 82nd minute.

At the Phillip Marcellin Grounds [PMG], in Vieux Fort, La Clery beat Vieux Fort North 2-1 for a comfortable winning start to their campaign. Scoring for La Clery was Jonathan Ailene in the 34th minute and prolific striker Andrus Remy in the 86th minute.

Vieux Fort South drubbed Marchand 6-0, after enjoying a 1 – 0 lead at half time; with goals from Kimani Joseph with a brace in the 75th and 85th minutes, added to goals from Saviola Elva, Riquelme Elva, Donavan Perpie and Noah Nicholas in the 13th, 47th, 58th and 71st minutes respectively.

Meanwhile, the St. Lucia Football Association Inc. continues with its drive to build capacity amongst its affiliates. As a result, the SLFA staged a five Day, D ‘License Coaching Workshop at the Access Centre in Soufriere from September 21 to 25.

The Workshop catered for approximately 20 male and female coaches from Canaries, Choiseul and Soufriere Football Leagues.

The Workshop takes on both theoretical and practical formats and is being facilitated by SLFA’s coaching instructors, Cyril Cess Podd, Emmanuel Bellas, Solomon Alexander, John Sealy, Keith Caroo and Sabattus Hunte.

Some of the topics down for discussion, included:

How Youngsters Learn, Session Planning, Coaching Methodology, Football Environment, Safety and Safe Guarding Policies, Nutrition and Performance, Technical and Tactical Training and Using Small Sided Games.

According to an SLFA official, upon completion of the five-day Workshop, the coaches will undergo a period of continuous evaluation and assessment leading up to their Certification.
