Blackheart Football Tournament All Set to Go

There were some close and exciting matches among participating teams as the 2022 Blackheart Football Play Offs took place, last weekend (September 24 and 25) at the Mabouya Playing Field.

In the end, Anse la Raye, South Castries and Babonneau qualified to compete in the main draw of this season’s Blackheart Football tournament.

On Day 1 (Saturday), after some tight matchups, the opening games were both decided via the penalty shoot-out.

After a 1-all draw at regulation time, Anse la Raye beat Babonneau from the spot kicks. Babonneau went ahead through Nelson Nelson in the 18th minute, but Anse la Raye got the equalizer from Ericson Magloire’s 22nd minute goal.

In the ensuing penalty shoot-out Anse la Raye prevailed 5 – 3 to advance.

Choiseul and South Castries registered the same scoreline 1 – 1. Scoring for South Castries was Dilan Lucien in the 14th minute while Darrel Francis equalised for Choiseul in the 38th minute.

In the end South Castries advanced 5 – 4 on penalties.

Despite the soggy conditions at the Mabouya Valley Playing Field, Sunday, Babonneau defeated Choiseul 4-1 with a comfortable victory to book their place for this season’s Blackheart competition.

Yanick Noel scored a hat trick with goals in the 21st, 30th, 52nd minutes and Lester Sonson in the 54th minute for Babonneau, while Siege Osman netted for Choiseul in the 36th minute.

Meanwhile, the second in the  ‘End of Month TOGS’ Under 12 Festival Series took place at the St. Lucia Sports Academy last  Saturday.

Five teams participated in the Series in a single round robin format of 20 minutes duration – 10 minutes each half. Eventually, Monchy United FC defeated GMC in the finals to emerge champions of the event.

Sherdan Sylvester gave GMC an early lead, but leading goal scorer Kheiron Hippolyte equalised in the dying minutes to send the game into the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Monchy United prevailed 3 – 2, to clinch the win and their consecutive Series win.
