Team St. Lucia Wins Two Consecutive Matches in CFU U-14 Series

Saint Lucia defeated Cayman Islands Thursday as the 2022 CFU Boys’ U-14 Challenge Series group stage concluded, in the Dominican Republic (DR).

The junior National U-14 Boys team registered their second consecutive win in the ongoing CFU Challenge Series Boys Under-14 tournament as they beat Cayman Islands convincingly,  by three goals to nil.

St Lucia dominated the match played at Parque del Este, forcing Cayman Islands’ goalie Javon Stanley to make some incredible saves.

In minute 27, Stanley’s clearance landed on the boot of Keenan Joseph, which deflected into the goal, giving St. Lucia the lead.

At the interval, Cayman Islands trailed St. Lucia.

On restart, Cayman Islands came out determined not to concede any more goals. The keeper made even more saves and the defenders worked hard to clear balls off the goal line.

Nonetheless, St. Lucia penetrated their opponents’ resolve and Shevon Byron extended their lead in the 42nd minute after displaying good football from a team effort resulting in an easy tap in.

A gliding header from Kailon Flavius pushed St. Lucia further ahead in the 48th minute.

Despite Cayman Islands’ determination, the young St. Lucians were the victors in the 3-nil match up.

In the previous encounter, Team St Lucia defeated Grenada 4-1, after losing their first two encounters to Martinique and St Martin, respectively.

After holding down a 1-all score at the interval, Team St Lucia upped the tempo in the latter session. Shevon Byron scored a brace, while Daniel Zakhour and Kailon Flavius netted the other goals.

Result of other matches played are as follows:

Bermuda vs. Barbados   2-0,

Martinique vs. Grenada 8-0,

Anguilla vs. St. Maarten 1-1,

St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) vs. Dominica 7-0,

Turks and Caicos Islands vs. US Virgin Islands 2-2.

St Martin vs. Cayman Islands vs. 2-0,

Aruba vs. St Kitts & Nevis 6-0,

Barbados vs. SVG 2-0,

French Guiana vs. Dominica 11-0,

BVI vs. St Marteen 2-0,

Anguilla vs. USVI   4-2.

Meanwhile, in the Invitational Jewels of the Caribbean Under-15 Girls tournament, St. Lucia Gems went down to Grenada 1-nil, after squandering numerous opportunities. Grenada scored the lone goal in the 2nd minute of added on time.

Saint Lucia was also due to play against Dominica on Friday (August, 19).

Meanwhile, the Vieux-Fort South Football League concluded its Clarke/ Fevriere Foundation Under-11 and Under-13 Youth competition, last weekend.

In the Finals of the Under-11 league; Shamballa Shiloh outplayed Stable Boys 1-nil to win the trophy.

In the third place playoffs, after a goalless draw in regulation time; Uptown Rebels outscored Knights 2-1, in a penalty shootout.

In the Under-13 finals, Stable Boys beat Platinum FC 1-nil, to redeem themselves and capture the top spot.

According to an official, the tournament saw several players being awarded prize tokens, in categories such as Most Outstanding Player; and Most Goals.

Meanwhile, results of matches played in the Marchand Football League/Cassius Glasgow Memorial Youth Under-12 and Under-18 tournament were as follows:

Under 12 –

Nyah FC vs. Flames FC 4 – 0,

BI FC vs. Flames FC 5-0.
