Four members of the National Housing Corporation (NHC) have resigned from the Corporation Housing Minister Richard Frederick confirmed this week.
The NHC, prior to press time yesterday, had not commented on the matter, however, Frederick told reporters he got word of the board members’ resignations whilst he was overseas.
Frederick who travelled to the United States recently to deliver an address at the United Nations, made headlines as it was his first time back on US soil since 2011. The minister’s visa was notably revoked back then for reasons that are not publicly known; however, rumours continue to abound.
“Whilst I was in New York, I got a call. The person was extremely agitated on the other end and asked me minister what’s happening in your office? I said well, I don’t know, I’m out of island and the person indicated that there seemingly was some feud or altercation that almost approximated violence,” Frederick said.
According to him, “it was because a particular board member whose voice was being heard pervading the entirety of the floor wanted their way and no other way. That led to the resignation of four members of the board; they said they can no longer work with that team; I have the resignations.”
The board of the NHC originally consisted of seven members. Frederick, Monday, informed reporters that Cabinet will be discussing the way forward for the NHC. The board members’ resignations have since caused widespread speculation on social media.
