From Soil to Boil (FSTB), the La Clery community-based group delivering healthy food to residents across St. Lucia will mark the end of its six month 50,000,000 Steps Challenge by hosting a closing ceremony on July 31, 2021, at the VBCC basketball court, La Clery, Castries, St. Lucia.
This event aims to recognize teams in St. Lucia and the United States who participated in the challenge by awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes – $500, $300, and $200 respectively, along with family-friendly games, entertainment and other fun activities.
From Soil to Boil (FSTB) focuses its efforts on the community of La Clery and its environs (Careillee, Sans Souci, Vide Boutielle and Bisee) with the objective of helping the elderly, homebound, children and disenfranchised to access affordable local food, eat healthy and make better food choices. The organisation’s tagline is reflective of this mission, “Healthy Is Wealthy”; and the 50,000,000 Steps Challenge focused on “six months to a fitter you.”
“From Soil to Boil is passionate about providing communities with healthy food choices that can help to prevent illness and hospitalisation through healthy eating,” said Patricia Alfred, Founder, From Soil to Boil. “The 50,000,000 Step Challenge is a part of that effort of supporting a healthier St. Lucia and we’re so glad to have 50 individuals and families, ages 12-75, take part.”
On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, FTSB launched the Healthy is Wealthy Campaign aimed at improving diet and fitness levels among the St. Lucian population. The campaign, which included the 50,000,000 Steps Challenge, ran from January 19th to July 19th, 2022, targeting children and adults. The goal was to tackle the growing incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCD), in a very ‘hands-on’ and positive way by instilling healthy eating and exercise habits into people from a very young age. The fundamental goal of the Healthy is Wealthy campaign is to encourage people to eat clean, move more and consequently, live longer.
