When the Millennium Heights Medical Complex (MHMC) sought support to commemorate International Nurses Day in May paying special attention to 270 frontline nurses, CIBC FirstCaribbean rose to the occasion as a corporate sector partner.
The nurses come from the three facilities which make up the complex, namely, Owen King European Union Hospital (OKEUH), the National Mental Wellness Centre (NMWC) and the Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centre (TPRC).
As part of a full week of activities to commemorate International Nurses Day in May, management of the Millennium Heights Medical Complex included an activity that would give due acknowledgement of and appreciation for the nursing teams servicing the three facilities within the complex. The activity took the form of an on-site luncheon and appreciation ceremony. CIBC FirstCaribbean made a contribution of EC$2,000 to this effort.
According the MHMC Chief Executive Officer Siobhan James-Alexander, the nursing teams “continue to serve the community through all the challenges, with the past two years being especially challenging, during the Covid-19 pandemic”. The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day observance was “A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health”.
According to Country Manager of CIBC FirstCaribbean Nigel Ollivierre, “we cannot quantify the value of front-line nurses in the management of health, and during the pandemic, their stoicism and their commitment to the people and the profession cannot be overlooked. The bank was therefore extremely pleased to help to say thanks on behalf of all Saint Lucians”, he concluded.
The Millennium Heights Medical Complex has recently transitioned to a statutory organisation aimed at raising our healthcare standards to meet international best practice.
