Chastanet Rubbishes Government’s Mantra ‘Putting People First’

Opposition Leader Allen Chastanet has taken to task the government’s mantra of ‘Putting People First’ claiming that the chant cannot be trusted.

“The Prime Minister is always quick to tell all who are around him that his party has been given an overwhelming mandate. But as a learned author, William Pollard once wrote, ‘…the arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow.’ In the last nine months our country, our people, have already realized we cannot trust “the putting people first” mantra. In fact when you look at the players and the people taking up positions in the SLP government, we all see the inner circle they are putting first. It was all a big lie,” Chastanet said in his rebuttal to Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre’s presentation of the 2022/2023 budget.

Chastanet delivered his rebuttal on national television after claiming that he was denied time to speak in parliament during the debates that followed Pierre’s presentations of the Estimates of Expenditure and the Appropriation Bill.
