Nobody wants to be referred to as being ignorant, foolish, dumb, called a “mope” or any other name that belittles your intelligence. Today, information is at your fingertips and the media, and other sources of knowledge can be verified in an instant. Yet some choose to ignore or pay no attention to relevant information or take heed.

In the case of a pending hurricane, you would be informed in most cases about the arrival time, the possible velocity, the amount of rain that will be associated with its coming and what protection you should take, especially if you live in a low-lying area that’s vulnerable to flooding, or if you live on a slope with the possibility of a landslide.

So that pre-information should alert you to the necessary precautions that you should take.

Failing to adhere can leave you vulnerable, or the consequences can be catastrophic.

In the same way if you leave your home or your car open and pay no attention to security you ought not to blame intruders, or complain of being a victim of theft.

There are consequences for not being attentive, or not taking the necessary steps to protect self, family and in some cases property.

Being careless or carefree can lead to disaster. If the road is slippery when wet, why ride a bike at top speed? If you earn a salary and don’t find it fitting to save a little of your earnings for your retirement, how do you expect to have the necessary security when you eventually grow old?

If you do not pay your domestic bills or rent or mortgage, don’t you expect that at some point in time your services, or landlord, or bankers, will pull the rug from under your feet?

Being aware and paying attention to your environment, and by extension your neighborhoods, is key in not becoming a victim of circumstances that may lead to regret. The big picture is that we are living in dreaded times, full of uncertainty and pending disasters, and our tomorrow is not guaranteed to pan-out in the way we think it should.

Often you hear the phrase “Make hay whiles the sun shines” or the other one “A stitch in time saves nine”, but most people pay no attention. We behave like we are in charge of our destiny, not realizing that the changes that are taking place worldwide can affect our future plans.

We go on living like yesterday will be like tomorrow and the changes that are taking place has no bearing on our lives.

I do not want to be seen as the prophet of doom, nor the bearer of bad news, but what I would like to advise all right-thinking people is to stop taking things for granted, put on your thinking cap and do what you must do for self-preservation.

Being a fool sometimes is of your own doings. If you waste and gamble what you have or foolishly spend, it can lead to regret, you cannot always go with the flow, be continuous, become more sensible don’t follow blindly and don’t blame others for your downfall or mishaps. You need to get smart, get informed, get ready for the unforeseen and be the builder of your future, if not Crappo will smoke your pipe and the sorrow of tomorrow will be of your own doing.

Following the trend, or only searching for delight and material satisfaction can lead you astray, it can lead you on the wrong path, mistakes can become costly and blaming others or the system or the government will not change the price of coffee.

We only have one life to live, don’t waste precious time doing foolish things, time to wise up.
