Saint Lucia Records 92 New Cases of COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE — Today Friday, September 24, 2021 the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs confirms a total of 92 new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Thursday September 23, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 358 samples. This number of positive cases makes up 25.7% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 11, 053.

The Ministry of Health also reports one new COVID-19 death and one new COVID-19 related death. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in-country is 139 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 44.

COVID-19 death #139 is a 78 year old male from the Babonneau district who passed away on September 17, 2021. COVID-19 related death #44 is a 79 year old male from the Castries district who passed away on September 6, 2021. The Ministry of Health extends condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of these gentlemen.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 59 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 2209. One (1) of the active cases is currently critical and twelve (12) of them are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 35, 725 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29, 300 have received the second dose. A total of 8,791 individuals have received the first dose and 1183 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Tomorrow Saturday, September 25, 2021 the vaccine will be given at the Vigie Sports Complex and the Vieux Fort Wellness Center Grounds from 9 am to 2 pm.
