Saint Lucia Records 70 New Cases of COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE — The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Tuesday, September 28, 2021, confirms a total of seventy (70) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 272 samples which were collected between September 24 and 27, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 25.7% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 11, 320.

The Ministry of Health also reports nine (9) new COVID-19 deaths. All of these deaths occurred during the period September 16, 2021 to September 26, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 149 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 44.

COVID-19 death #141 is a 41 year old female from the Babonneau district. COVID-19 death #142 is a 67 year old female from the Vieux-Fort district. COVID-19 death #143 is a 59 year old male from the Babonneau district. COVID-19 death #144 is a 63 year old female from the Babonneau district. COVID-19 death #145 is a 73 year old female from the Anse La Raye district. COVID-19 death #146 is a 49 year old male from the Babonneau district. COVID 19 death #147 is a 74 year old male from the Micoud district. COVID-19 death #148 is a 75 year old male from the Soufriere district. COVID-19 death #149 is a 61 year old male from the Vieux-Fort district. The Ministry of Health extends sympathizes to the families, friends and loved ones of all of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 31 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 1,499. Two (2) individuals are in critical state while twelve (12) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 35,814 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29,467 have received the second dose. A total of 9,431 individuals have received the first dose and 2,053 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the Vigie Sports Complex, Dennery Mothers’ Pre-School and the St. Anthony Medical Center in Vieux Fort. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at all sites from 9 am to 4pm.
