Saint Lucia Records 125 New Cases of COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE — Today Wednesday September 22, 2021 the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs confirms a total of 125 new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Monday September 20, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 388 samples. This number of positive cases makes up 32.2% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 10, 852.

The Ministry of Health also reports one new COVID-19 death. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 126 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 43.

COVID-19 death #126 is an 84 year old male from the Vieux-Fort district who passed away on September 5, 2021. The Ministry of Health sympathizes with family friends and loved ones of this individual.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 66 individuals diagnosed with COVID19. This brings the number of active cases in country to 2240. Four of these active cases are currently critical and eleven of them are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 35, 646 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29, 156 have received the second dose. A total of 8, 300 individuals have received the first dose and 636 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Tomorrow Thursday, September 23, 2021 the vaccine will be given at the Vieux-Fort RC Parish Hall and the People’s Discount Drugstore at St. Louis Street (by appointment only) from 9am to 4pm.
