Saint Lucia Records 124 New Cases of COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE — The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs apologizes for the delay in the reporting of COVID-19 cases for Friday September 10, 2021. This delay is due to the island wide power outage experienced late yesterday afternoon.

Late Friday September 10, 2021 the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs received confirmation of a total of 124 new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Thursday September 9, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 469 samples. This number of positive cases makes up 26.4% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 9527.

The Ministry of Health also reports two new COVID-19 deaths and two COVID-19 related deaths. These deaths occurred during the period August 12, 2021 to September 5, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 94 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 38.

COVID-19 death #93 is a 54 year old male from the Castries district. COVID-19 death #94 is a 71 year old male from the Vieux-Fort district.

COVID-19 related death #35 is a 69 year old female from the Vieux-Fort district. COVID-19 related death #36 is a 68 year old male from the Castries district.

The Ministry of Health extends sympathizes to the families, friends and loved ones of all of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 74 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in country to date to 2338. Three of these active cases are currently critical and eleven of them are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 35, 275 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 28, 561 have received the second dose. A total of 5, 993 individuals have received the first dose and 76 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Today Saturday, September 11, 2021 the vaccine will be given at the Vieux-Fort Wellness Center Grounds and the Vigie Sports Complex from 9am to 2pm.
