COURTS St. Lucia hosted its first ever Mommy and Me Baking Competition on Friday May 7, 2021 at Courts Marisule. The mother, daughter team of Jamin Emmanuel & Jannae Philogence from Gros Islet were crowned winners of the grand prize of $1,000 Courts cash and the title ‘Courts Mommy & Me Baking Champions’.
The contest sponsored by Black & Decker and Caribbean Grains was launched via the company’s social media platforms. Persons were invited to submit their favorite recipes and four teams where selected to participate in the in-store bake off. Courts Brand Manager, Melissa Marius said “We saw an overwhelming number of persons registering for the competition and were very impressed with the creativity and uniqueness demonstrated in the recipes submitted. We selected our top four recipes and invited them in-store to showcase their talent.”
Customers in-store had an opportunity to sample products from the competition and from event sponsor Caribbean Grains. Courts also partnered with local entrepreneurs to have their products available for sale in store during the competition. “We love celebrating moms and always look forward to Mother’s Day at Courts. But this year we felt the need to incorporate local entrepreneurs into the mix to help drive their sales during these challenging times. Our customers loved it and they enjoyed watching the bake-off both in-store and on our social media platforms.” Marius added.
The panel of judges included representatives from Courts, and a representative from local sponsors, Caribbean Grains. All the dishes for the competition were prepared using a range of small appliances from Courts.
Jammin and Janiah wowed the judges with their banana crumble muffins. “Thank you so much Courts, this competition was fun, I’m really happy we were a part of it.” said Janiah. All participants were awarded a small appliance complements Black & Decker, a gift voucher from Courts and a gift basket from Caribbean Grains.
