SLFA International Women’s Day Tribute To Mary Liz Campbell

On the heels of International Women’s Day 2021 celebrated on Monday 8th March under the theme, ‘Choose to Challenge’ the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc spotlight centers on its only female match commissioner on island, Mary Liz Campbell who was born in Castries and raised in Choiseul, and later migrated to Soufriere where she has lived for the past 25 years.

Liz views herself as a passionate, ambitious and dedicated person who has been involved in youth and sports for most of her adult life, predominantly football.

She is the 2nd Vice President of the SLFA Inc. having been first elected in 2015 and subsequently in 2019.

She presently serves as the Women’s Football Coordinator, with responsibility to drive the implementation of the association’s strategic plan, thus ensuring that the level of awareness is raised. Additionally increase participation in females across the board. For her this diverse and exciting role has three key areas of responsibility

To the liaison between players and stakeholders; to maintain player records as it relates to the growth and development of Women’s football and to assist in the coordination of the game’s requirements.

During her involvement in the beautiful game of football she has served as secretary of the Windward Islands Football Associations Women’s Committee, team manager of the National Under 23 and senior female teams, manager of the Soufriere Under  15 and Under 17 female football teams. She also served as manager of the Black Heart team while serving as the secretary of Challengers FC.

Football means a lot to Liz as it is a medium where she shares her emotional experiences with friends, family and even strangers. Football is the constant that ties us together. The beautiful game of football, makes her laugh, cry, angry and be overjoyed. Football is her life.

In conclusion Liz wants to continue playing a pivotal role in helping propel Saint Lucia’s Football to highest heights thus ensuring that FOOTBALL becomes the number one sport of choice for the female population.

We can’t change the direction of the wind, but we can adjust our sails to reach our final destination which is to qualify for the World Cup says Liz.
