Saint Lucia records 7 new cases of COVID-19, 1 Death

The Ministry of Health and Wellness today Wednesday, March 31, 2021, received confirmation from the Ezra Long Laboratory of 7 new cases of COVID-19. These results are from a batch of 164 samples. The samples were taken on March 29, 2021, and March 30, 2021. These samples were processed on March 30, 2021.

The seven individuals were seen at various community respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocol, they were each placed in home quarantine by healthcare practitioners while awaiting the return of their COVID-19 test results. Arrangements have been made to place these newly diagnosed cases in isolation. The contact tracing for these new cases is currently underway.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 2 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently recorded in country to date to 119. At present, one of the active cases requires critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 4245.

The Ministry of Health also reported one COVID-19 related death bringing the total number of deaths in country to date to 61. The latest death is an 88-year-old male from the Vieux- Fort district with underlying medical illnesses who passed away while in care.
