Taiwan donates two vehicles to Saint Lucia

THE Government of Saint Lucia last week received two vehicles from the Taiwan Technical Mission, a gesture towards strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

The vehicles are said to be in great working condition and were donated by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) branch of the Taiwan Technical Mission.

Two vehicles donated by Taiwan.

The donation came about when on October 2nd 2020, Mr. Barrymore Felicien, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture wrote to the Head of the Taiwan Technical Mission, Mr. Mario Cheng. Felicien formally requesting the use of vehicle registration number CD 79, consistent with the Ministryā€™s efforts of improving Saint Luciaā€™s agricultural sector. Mr. Felicien explained that the vehicle will be used to assist with the implementation of their fruits and vegetable programme.

ā€œThe Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Natural Resources and Co-operatives thank the ICDF for their invaluable contribution to the 7 Crops Project and seek to deepen our partnership,ā€ Felicien said when the vehicles were handed over.

Likewise, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Ms. Michelle S. Charles wrote to Mr. Cheng on November 10th 2020, expressing her gratitude for the donation of the 2007 Nissan X-Trail. Ms. Charles mentioned how the vehicle will help the department better manage its daily duties.

ā€œAs you may be aware, one of the Departmentā€™s main priorities is the integration of the ICTs into the education system. There is now a greater thrust in this direction with the advent of COVID-19. The infusion of more ICT devices in schools has also increased the need for sustainability and maintenance of computers and other ICT devices. Thus, the provision of this vehicle will provide the much-needed support to our technicians in reaching our schools in a more timely manner,ā€ Charles said.
