Officials with the French army stationed in the Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe on Wednesday confirmed the seizure of a record 4.2 tons of cocaine in nearby waters.
The Armed Forces of the Antilles recovered 177 bricks of cocaine aboard a Venezuelan-flagged fishing vessel in the Atlantic Ocean, off Barbados, in the South-East of the Antillean Arc on January 17.
Eight people aboard the fishing vessel were arrested.
Authorities said the seizure was a result of close cooperation with several countries. After the 177 bundles tested positive for cocaine, they were seized and then destroyed in Martinique last week.
