VINCENTIANS heeded the call of Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves to give him more time to finish what he started by voting him into office for an unprecedented fifth term Thursday.
This was a history creating moment for Gonsalves as he is the only prime minister in CARICOM to win a fifth consecutive victory at the polls.
Gonsalves who led his Unity Labour Party beat the opposition New Democratic Party, led by Godwin Friday, by winning nine of 15 seats that make up the Parliament of that country.
The 74-year-old Gonsalves won the North Central Windward seat rather comfortably saying on his Facebook page that he was humbled beyond words and thanking Vincentians for having faith and confidence in him.
This was the country’s tenth general elections since it gained Independence in 1979. Gonsalves is the only person who has participated in all ten general elections in his country and the only person to have emerged in the first 20 years of the 21st century to lead Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
