SLFA Weekend Matches In Island Cup and Youth Tournaments

MATCHES in the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc Island Cup Premiere League competition sponsored by the Government of Saint Lucia and powered by Smalta continues on Sunday 4th October 2020 with four exciting matches at two venues.

At the Canaries playing field from 6.00 p.m. Babonneau takes on Marchand. This encounter is expected to generate quite a lot of excitement with Marchand in search of their first win. Babonneau on the other hand will be looking to improve on their drawn game against Mabouya Valley. At 8.00 p.m. home team Canaries plays Roseau.

Also on Sunday, but this time at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort, from 4.00 p.m., the National Under-17 team will play Laborie. The National Under-7 team will be looking for their first win in the competition, while Laborie will be looking to avenge their 1 – 0 defeat inflicted by Choiseul.

At 8.00 p.m. Gros Islet will come up against Desruisseaux.

The points standing to date: Gros Islet – 4 points; while Dennery, Vieux Fort South and Canaries each locked on 3 points.

The leading goal scorers are Aaron Richard, Lincoln Phillip and Kurt Frederick with two goals each, while there are nine players each with one goal.

On Thursday 1st October at the La Ressource playing field in the Mabouya Valley with yet another double header.

In the first game played No. 21 David Nickson shot Soufriere into the lead in the first minute of play. Vieux Fort North were unperturbed as they kept pressing forward and were rewarded with the equalizer by No. 6 Lodrick Doxilly in the 5th minute.

They had numerous opportunities to forge ahead but poor finishing cost them as the half ended 1-1.

On the resumption both teams sought the go ahead goal and as a result the complexion of the game intensified resulting in Vieux Fort North being awarded a free kick just at the top of the 18 yard area. This they duly made use of with No. 15 Haggai Poleon making no mistake scoring a beauty of the taken rebounded shot.

No further goals were scored as Vieux Fort North continued their unbeaten run thus far with a well deserved 2-1 victory.

The unstoppable La Clery team collected all three points against a hapless Mon Repos team drubbing them 6-0.

Before Mon Repos could have time to settle No.16 Andrus Remy propelled La Clery into the lead with an early goal in the 1st minute, while on the stroke of halftime, the 45th minute, No. 6 Rohan Cooper added another to make it 2-0.

Mon Repos tried valiantly to stem the tide on the resumption, but to no avail as La Clery surged further into the lead with a goal by No 7 Jonathan Aliene in the 51st minute.

There was no letting up as three further goals were scored with No. 10 Malix St. Prix scoring in the 67th minute, No. 16 Remy getting his second in the 77th minute, and No. 15 Michelle Pieragostini rounding things up in the 83rd minute.

Following the completion of the third round of matches the points standing is as follows: La Clery and Vieux Fort North – 9 points; Micoud – 6 points, while Laborie, Soufriere and Choiseul each locked on 3 points respectively.

The leading goal scorers are Andrus Remy of La Clery and Calton Daniel of Micoud with 4 goals each followed by Rai Gaspard of Micoud and Jonathan Aliene of La Clery with three goals.

Four players are locked on two goals each: Duncan Gopal – Vieux Fort North, Francis Joyeux, Malik St. Prix – La Clery and Lamar Serieux – Micoud.

Meanwhile, matches continue in the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc Boys Club Championships powered by Smalta continue today (Saturday 3rd) and Sunday 4th October 2020 with matches in the Western Zone in Anse La Raye and in the Southern Zone at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds (PMG) in Vieux Fort.

To date the competition has generated quite a lot of intrigue and excitement as teams look to cement their positions at the top of the respective tables.

In the Western Zone, Under 11 from 10.00 a.m.: T Valley versus CT Foundations and 1987 All Stars takes on NYAH FC.

From 12.00 noon, Northern United plays FC Pioneers and Flow Lancers will come up against New Generations.

In the Under 13 category, from 2.00 p.m. 1987 All Stars takes on GMC United and Monchy plays T Valley at 4.00 p.m.

On Sunday 4th from 10.00 a.m. B1 FC versus Northern United; LA All Stars plays Boguis United at 11.30 p.m. and CT Foundations will fancy their chances against Valley Soccer from 1.00 p.m.

In Under 17 action from 5.30 p.m. Valley Soccer versus Flames FC and New Generation takes on CT Foundation at 7.00 p.m.

In the Southern Zone at the PMG, Under 11 division from 10.00 a.m. Uptown Rebels plays Victory Eagles and Panthers versus RYO.

From 12.00 noon in the Under 13 category, RYO versus Black Panthers and DCYO versus Uptown Rebels.

The showpiece continues in the Under 17 division with one match on the card, from 3.00 p.m. Uptown Rebels versus Platinum FC.
