Last month the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean presented a cheque in the amount of EC$15,000.00 to the National Community Foundation (“NCF”) in honour of a pledge made during the National Telethon held on Sunday April 12th 2020.
The presentation to the NCF was made by the President of the Institute Mrs. Andrea St Rose
At the presentation, Mrs. St Rose thanked the member firms of PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPMG, Ernst & Young BDO and Grant Thornton all of whom answered the call to contribute towards this charitable gesture and expressed the Institute’s support for our frontline workers who place their lives at risk to ensure that we all remain safe. She reminded St Lucians that we are not out of the woods yet and urged all to follow the prescribed protocols established by the authorities.
Mrs. St Rose expressed the hope that the contribution will go some way towards the procurement of PPE for our frontline workers. She took the opportunity to call for amicable dealings among stakeholders, i.e. employers, trade unions and employees in resolving employment arrangements and advised that the provisions of the Labour Act be considered to avert companies having to take redundancy actions where possible.
