THE Labour Department has summoned the Castries Constituencies Council (CCC) and the National Workers Union (NWU) to an urgent meeting today to quell the problems within the Council that had resulted in workers attached to the Sanitation and Works Department downing tools Monday and Tuesday.
The workers, who have since returned to work, went on strike action without their trade union representative, the NWU, formally informing CCC management of the reason for the industrial action, according to a press release from the CCC.
“In light of this, Council’s management put contingency plans in place to maintain services, ensure that all facilities were functioning and streets within the city were kept clean,” noted the release.
The CCC statement noted that “Since then, we have received correspondence from the Labour Department summoning the CCC and the NWU to an urgent meeting on Thursday February 27, 2020 at 1:30 pm at the Labour Department at Barnard Hill.”
The CCC promised a statement updating members of the public on the decisions of to0day’s meeting.
