WITH 42 days still to go, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports is currently considering a shortlist to be determined from submissions received from 14 National Sporting Associations for the most prestigious awards for the 40th annual National Sports Awards to be held on Saturday 15th February 2020 at a venue to be confirmed.
Among National Associations making the Friday 27th December 2019 deadline for the submissions of names were the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union, the Saint Lucia Table Tennis Association, the Saint Lucia Athletics Association, the Saint Lucia Cricket Association, the Saint Lucia Aquatics Federation, the Saint Lucia Tennis Association, Saint Lucia Special Olympics, Saint Lucia Basketball Federation, the Saint Lucia Boxing Association, the Saint Lucia Football Association, the Saint Lucia Volleyball Association, Saint Lucia Golf Association, Karate-Do Federation Saint Lucia and Netball Saint Lucia.
The most prestigious awards will again go to junior male and female sports personalities and Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. A shortlist for the various categories will be announced soon by the Ministry.
Last year’s top winners were senior male and female Albert Reynolds and Levern Spencer (Athletics); while the junior male and female awards were copped by Kimani Melius (Cricket) and Julien Alfred (Athletics).
Other awards up for grabs include: Administrator of the Year; Coach of the Year; Technical Official; Community Leader; Special Recognitions (sponsors etc); Presentation to Champion Teams; Posthumous; Lifetime Achievement and Minister Award respectively.
