At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday July 11th, Police Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Gros Islet Police Station responded to reports of a stabbing at Marina Street in Gros Islet. Upon arrival at the scene, Police discovered a young man who had been inflicted with a stab wound to his chest. He was identified as 26-year-old Marlie William of Massade, Gros Islet. He was thereafter conveyed to the Victoria Hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
A 16-year-old female is reported to be in police custody and assisting with investigations in relation to this matter. It is alleged that an altercation had ensued between this young woman and the homicide victim prior to the fatal incident. A Gros Islet resident who was on the scene at the time of the incident, who recognised the victim, remarked, “I didn’t know him well, but would see him passing in the area, and one thing about him, he would always say hello to me. Whatever transpired, it’s sad that he had to lose his life that way.” Pictures of the deceased were found circulating on social media shortly after the incident occurred.
On Friday July 12th a post mortem examination was conducted on the body of Marlie William which revealed the cause of death as “Right hemarthrosis secondary to incise stab wound to the heart.” Investigations into the matter are continuing.
