According to organizers, this year’s Roots & Soul Festival promises ‘thought-provoking poetic delivery, heart-pumping rhythms and throwback classics’, served up in two spectacular island venues, The Ramp in Rodney Bay and the historic Pigeon Island National Landmark.
From August 23rd to 25th, the Saint Lucia Roots & Soul Festival will world acclaimed musical entertainment, delivered by an A-list of Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B and Afro-punk artistes.
On Friday August 23rd from 8:30 p.m. at the Ramp, take in spoken-word from UK based Saint Lucian poet Curmiah Lisette, followed by the rootsy Naomie (Ngozi) Grandison, then Canadian Based Saint Lucian Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B singer, Asher “Smallz” Small backed by other Saint Lucian artistes. Close off day one with Trinidadian Rapso band, 3Canal.
On Day 2, Saturday August 24th, head to Pigeon Island for Skip Monday, Nigerian Superstar Timaya, followed by British Pop Superstar Leee John, closing with Reggae legend Tarrus Riley featuring Estelle. Show time 6 p.m.
Return to Pigeon Island on Sunday August 25th, from 4 p.m. for Saint Lucia’s Sherwinn Dupes Brice followed by Saint Lucian Canadian balladeer ZAMANI and then R&B duo, Ginuwine and Grammy winning award artist Mya.
The Roots and Soul Festival climaxes with a showstopper, the most successful, Reggae group in the world, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro.
