Local Cricket: SLNCA Quarterfinals 50 Overs this Weekend

Eight teams will be jostling for the semifinal spot when cricket action resumes in the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) Senior 50 Overs competition on Saturday 8th June 2019, with the quarterfinals at four venues around the island.

At the Phillip Marcellin Ground (PMG), South Castries with century maker Tonius Simon (136) along with Johnson Charles, Daren Sammy, Collinus Calendar, AvalinusCallendar, Shervon Leo, and WendelInglis in its lineup, will take on Vieux Fort.

The boys from the south with their home support behind them and players Murlan Sammy, Shervin George, Travis Gifford and Hafeez Ali, are sure to make this game an intriguing one.

At the Piaye Playing Field (PPF), Soufriere comes up against Gros Islet; both teams feature players who can take the game from the lion’s mouth. For Soufriere, Xytus Emmanuel, Ashley Hippolyte, DaliusMonrose, Desmond Alfred, and Canis Richardson, will want nothing less than a win.

For Gros Islet, century maker Vidal Crandon (107) will want to continue his good run on form alongside Kimani Melius, Lee Solomon, Simeon Gerson, Tarrick Gabriel, Garvin Serieux, Dominic Auguste and Tyrel Chicot.

Central Castries will be on home turf when they take on Choiseul at the Mindoo Phillip Park (MPP), and for the many cricket enthusiasts coming to take in the showpiece they will surely see some power hitting from both sides.

For Central Castries, Gaspard Prospere will lead the charge along with Mateo Boulogne, Tyler Sookwa, Alleyne Prospere, Alvin Prospere, Jaden Elibox, LoicProspere, Jamal James, Keygan Arnold and AckeemAuguste.

For Choiseul, Vince Smith, Bronte Bess, Andy Alexander, Jason Simon, Christian Charlery, Valange St Ange and Yohan Williams, will all be in top form.

At the Wenn Playing Field in Mon Repos, Babonneau is expected to pull out all the stops when they clash with Mon Repos. It’s too early to call this one, but both teams are sure to come out firing.

For Babonneau, former national player, Alvin Lafeuille will lead from the front, along with Isaiad Wilfred, Joshua Mann, Nehimiah Wilfred, Shervon Joseph and Caleb Thomas.

Like their previous matches in the preliminary round, Mon Repos will depend heavily on Shervin Charles, Craigg Emmanuel, Winnel Felix, Keon Gaston, Hazel Charlery and Dichege Henry to see them through to the semifinal stage.

Meanwhile, according to the SLNCA, the semifinals will be played on Sunday 9th June.

Semifinal 1: The winner of the South Castries/Vieux Fort matchup will play the winner of the Central Castries/Choiseul game at the PMG.

Semifinal 2: The winner of the Soufriere /Gros Islet match will play the winner of the Mon Repos/Babonneau game at the MPP.

All matches bowl off from 10.00 a.m.
