BALANCE for Better – the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day. The occasion is celebrated on March 8 annually and marks the beginning of a united movement of women embarked in collective action meant to uplift and foster progress. This year, building a gender balanced world is the cause, altogether worthy, and within reach to achieve. Inequities for women in all facets of life have existed since time immemorial, and this year’s thrust places the focus on leveling the playing field and adding to efforts which have had positive impact on the lives of women all over the world.

Here in Saint Lucia, plans for International Women’s Day 2019 are well underway. Several hot ticket events have already begun advertising line ups featuring prominent women from around the region. Among the events, Tea & Testimony to be held at Government House is at the top of the list. The event will feature nine powerhouses including Raquel Du Boulay-Chastanet, wife of Prime Minster Honourable Allen Chastanet, Paula Calderon, NeyshaSoodeen, Dr. Nadine Collins, Dr. Gale Gigobert, Mara Giraudy-Thompson, Michelle Anthony Desir, Sister Marie Claire Joseph and Roberta Polius. Profits of the event will go towards the Women’s Support Centre. Tea & Testimony will be held on Sunday, March 10 from 2:30 pm – 5:30 p.m.
