Chartered Surveyors back from Jamaica conference

PRESS RELEASE – IN an effort to ensure that the highest standards are not only maintained but reinforced, the Institute of Surveyors (St. Lucia) Inc (I.S.S.L.U.) recently participated in the annual Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (R.I.C.S.) of the Americas and International Property Tax Institute (I.PT.I.) conference entitled “7th Annual Caribbean Valuation & Construction Conference – Challenges, Opportunities and Experience Sharing”.

The conference was held in Montego Bay Jamaica October 25th 2018.

The two-day conference featured opening remarks by John Hughes, President, RICS, Canada Paul Sanderson, President, IPTI, UK Eric Allen, Chair, RICS Caribbean Advisory Group & Member RICS Americas Board, Jamaica.

The conference also featured speakers from a wide range of disciplines including Finance, Construction, Project Management Professionals, Disputes and Litigations.

In addition, Topics covered included Impact of Natural Disasters on Properties, Land Transfer Standards and Compulsory Purchase, Strategies for Mitigating Risks in Public Procurement and Payment of Compensation for Land Acquisition in the Caribbean among others.

The participants were also addressed as to RICS standards and Practices as well as RICS polices going forward.

Saint Lucia was represented Winsbert Felix, Thomas James, Terrance St. Clair, Tedburt Theobalds, Howard Hughes, Theresa Alexander-Louis, Egbert Louis, Rufinus Baptiste and Marissa Justin.

The delegation comprised members of the executive and ordinary members and represented a cross section of surveying professionals. (ISSLU)
