PRESS RELEASE – THE significance of amalgamated effort in implementing action to change the world was recently underscored with the official induction of 23 new members to the Rotary Satellite Club of Saint Lucia Sunset.
Formed by a membership who remained committed to the principles of voluntarism after affiliation with the youth arm of Rotary International, the newly inducted members form part of a global effort to engage youth in the philanthropic efforts of Rotary.
On Wednesday August 29, 2018, club members elected an executive board of six Rotarians, comprised Tzmallah Haynes-Joseph (Chairperson), Lisa James (Chairperson Elect), Keisha Alfred ( Secretary) Stewart Moonie (Treasurer), Raul Joseph (Club Administration Director) and Uriah Hunte ( Community Service Director).
The newly formed grouping is part of the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia, with membership gathered from various professional classifications. The official pinning ceremony of membership was hosted on Wednesday October 10th, from 6pm at the NSDC offices in Bisee, with Rotarians from the Rotary club of Gros Islet and the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia in attendance.
Satellite clubs began as a Rotary International Pilot Program three years ago. The Rotary Club of Boulder was the first to create a satellite club, and it was so successful that Rotary leadership agreed to allow other Rotary Clubs the same opportunity.
A satellite club meets at an alternate time and location – typically chosen to appeal to young professionals who may not be able to take time during the work day for Rotary meetings. The satellite club members are full Rotarians, inducted into the sponsoring club. However, the alternate times and potentially lower dues allow more young professionals and others to join Rotary.
