The Island Mourns Former Minister Arsene James’ Death

The community of Micoud and by extension the people of Saint Lucia were shocked with the news of former Micoud South MP, Arsene James’ passing while at hospital in Martinique early Sunday morning.

In a tearful tribute on Facebook by Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, the 73-year-old former parliamentarian, who served as Education and Culture Minister in the Sir John Compton led government (2006-2011) was referred to as a compassionate, kind and devoted soul.

Tributes were also posted by representatives from other constituencies including Dennery North’s MP, Shawn Edward, who reflected on their comradery in Parliament.

Mr. James, a former teacher and principal, was an integral part in the development of the island’s education system.

In 2017, he was awarded the Saint Lucia Cross as part of our 38th Independence Awards.

The Voice extends heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, the people of Micoud, members of the United Workers Party and the people of Saint Lucia. May he rest in perfect peace.”
