HERE’S TO A SPORTS EXTRAVAGANZA WEEKEND!

WITH a number of carnival activities taking place in various communities, likewise a number of national sports associations will also stage events across Saint Lucia — and despite the local activities, the action continues in the FIFA World Cup, while West Indies takes on Sri Lanka in the third Test.

Rugby
Exciting Rugby action returns to the La Clery playing field this afternoon, as the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union hosts Team Diamante out of Martinique. The Martiniquan’s will take on Saint Lucia’s national team in a hopefully thrilling 15-man contest and the showpiece is scheduled for 3.00 p.m.

World Cup Football: Today – Belgium versus Tunisia, South Korea play Mexico and Germany come up against Sweden.
Test Cricket: Today is Day 1 in the third Test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka at Kensington Oval, Barbados. The West Indies lead the three match series 1-0.

National Football
Following a good performance by a number of Saint Lucia women’s footballers at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in Antigua and Barbuda, the Saint Lucia Football Association will stage the third place silverware and final of its senior national women’s tournament at the Anse la Raye playing field this evening.

From 5.00 p.m. Vieux Fort North takes on the home team Anse la Raye.

The action is expected to heat up as defending champions Dennery play last year’s finalist Canaries/Soufriere in a revenge match from 7.00 p.m. for the championship trophy.

Bodybuilding
Bodybuilding action returns on the main stage this evening as the Saint Lucia Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association will stage its annual national championship — and this time around, the event will take place at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School from 8.00 p.m.

A number of individuals representing La Borde’s Gym, Vel’s Fitness Centre, Fitness Freaks, Mango Moon, South Side Gym, Sidonie Brothers and Lifestyle Fitness will grace the stage in various categories – Bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Figure and Bikini.

Saint Lucia-born professional athlete Maria Jn Pierre and Garwin Phillips from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines — the two Guest Posers for the evening — are expected to thrill the audience.

On Sunday – World Cup Football Day 11: England versus Panama, Japan play Senegal and Poland come up against Columbia.
Test Cricket: Its day 2, in the third Test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka at Kensington Oval, Barbados.

Moto X Cross
Vieux Fort comes alive tomorrow afternoon as the Saint Lucia Moto X Club, in collaboration with Monster Energy, stage the fourth round of competition from 1.00 p.m. with a series of exciting races on the card.

According to the organizers, stiff competion are expected in Class A, B and C and for the many Moto X fans coming to support as usual, will see the likes of Darren Rosemond, Kevin Elcock go head to head against each other. Also in the mix will be Rajani, Christian, Alpha, Kareen, Jah-Mallen, Antonio, Amir, Rossi, Dane, Kevin, Oswald, Brian, Arkim and Kello.

Rugby Day 2
The Marigot playing field will come alive tomorrow with Rugby action as the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union will stage its second in a series of Community 7s tournament from 2.00 p.m.

SLFA/ Coca Cola National Football
The inaugural Saint Lucia National Football Association Coca Cola Island Cup kicks off on Sunday 24th June with a double header at the Marchand Ground.

In the first encounter, Canaries play La Clery from 6.00 p.m. and Anse la Raye play Marchand at 8.00 p.m.
Seventeen teams are participating in the tournament which will be played at seven venues around the island.
The winning team will take home $25,000 the second will get $15,000 and the third team $10,000.
