Dennery Waterfall Run Registers Success

TRINIDAD and Tobago long distance runner Curtis Cox secured the first place position as the curtains came down on the Dennery Waterfall Run 2018 Tuesday.

And according to the organizers, the mixture of sports and entertainment made this year’s event a spectacle for competitive athletes, fitness freaks and carnival lovers alike.

The event, which was a huge success also featured Vincentian Linda McDowall, Junior Ashton and Martiniquan Fabienne Massolin. The Road Busters Club captured both the male and female club category, while the bright spots saw the rise of Earl Alcide and Tabitha Louis in the 13 and under 6 Kilometer race.

Cox made light work of the field to win in a time of 36 minutes 46.18 seconds which also included a number of seasoned campaigners.

Coming into second place was Junior Ashton of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in 36 minutes 58.37 seconds and Michael Biscette of Saint Lucia in 37 minutes 19 .57seconds.

Among the women, Linda McDowall of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines easily topped the field to win in a time of 42 minutes.52.21 seconds, ahead of Shantal Glasgow (Saint Lucia) in 49 minutes 01.12 seconds and 3rd – Fabienne Massolin (Martinique) in 50 minutes 27.53 seconds.

Top three female finishers out of Dennery were BenatraCharlery (1st place) in 1 hour 05.08 seconds, 2nd – Mineva Charles 1 hour 09.30 seconds and 3rd – Kayler Joseph – 1 hour 13.10 seconds.

In the Male category out of Dennery Newton Marshall came in first place in 49 minutes 27.81 seconds, 2nd Daniel Laurent 51 minutes 04.03, 3rd – Peterson Charlery 54 minutes 12.50

Male – 1st – Earl Alcide, 2nd – Akanathan Ephraim, 3rd – Emmanus Fred

President of the Dennery Youth and Sports Council, Ramel Polius was thankful and elated that the vision of the Dennery Waterfall Run was a reality.

Poilus said, “We are happy for the support of our title sponsors; The Dennery Community Credit Cooperative Society Limited and the National Lotteries Authority of Saint Lucia; and our many other sponsors who saw our vision”.

“I am happy for my team from the Dennery Youth and Sports Council (present and past) who did a wonderful job and went above and beyond their call of duty; the officials, the volunteers; the media and all the athletes (both casual and competitive) who made this event a success”, He noted.
