VIEUX-FORT police say they are making headway into their investigations into the criminal activities of a group of young men of Pierrot, Vieux-Fort and that an arrest is imminent.
The group of young men has over the years been terrorizing the community, leaving residents on edge.
“We will make an arrest soon. There is no doubt about that,” Inspector Marcellinus Leonce of the Vieux-Fort Police Station told The VOICE.
He added that their investigations are thorough.
Currently, the Vieux-Fort police are investigating several incidents, such as housebreaking.
The recent incident occurred just over a week ago when a home was invaded by the group, leaving one man injured. Since the incident, the male occupants have abandoned their homes for fear of being killed by the men whom they described as “vagabonds”.
Family members of the injured man told The VOICE that he has been an easy target for the men who have beaten him three times recently. They say the men attack him whenever he drinks and they feel he has money.
Several residents told this reporter that the men who are terrorizing the community are well- known in the area and in many cases are seen breaking the law.
According to the concerned residents, since the recent incident, the men have not behaved themselves and are continuing to break the law with impunity.
“They are behaving as though they do not care and the police can’t stop them,” Lucy Daniel, who had her shop burglarized three times over the past few years, said.
One resident showed this reporter a dwelling house in the area which was burglarized over six times.
Residents say they are hoping that the police will put an end to their pains soon.
