EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Jamal Frederick became the country’s 19th homicide for the year over the weekend.
According to initial police investigations, Frederick, of Barre Denis, Castries, received a single stab wound to the stomach on Friday evening and was pronounced dead on arrival at Victoria Hospital.
Police have not disclosed what prompted the altercation with another male that led to Frederick’s death. However, reports from various sources suggest that it was over a cigarette.
Prior to his death, emergency personnel on the scene found Frederick lying on his back on the ground, conscious and alert and complaining of pain to his lower right chest.
According to a report from the St. Lucia Fire Service, an assessment revealed that Frederick received a sucking wound to his lower right chest and two lacerations to his right arm and was then transferred to the ambulance where an occlusive dressing was applied.
