GIVE

Mary-Juliana-Brice2“GIVE, and it will come back to you.” Have you ever heard this and acknowledged it? So often have we failed to give, as we sometimes think that we do not have enough, and so we hold on to our things and refuse to give. Everyone needs help at some time in their lives, and by giving, we make a big difference in their lives.

How did you get all the things that you have? You were certainly given quite a few things. If we take some time to examine all that we have, we will certainly recognise how much has been given to us. Why are we then holding on to all that we have and refuse to pass some things on to others?

Nothing lasts forever, and so there are many things in our homes that we no longer use: Our clothes, shoes, special outfits, equipment, products, decorations, and all life’s issues. What are we planning to give others? Money is not the only thing that some want. There are persons who are poor and would like to have some basic things that are important in their lives. There are some things that do not last for a long time, and so if it is not in use, it should be given away. Why should we keep it, and then it gets destroyed and we end up throwing it away? Imagine someone would have been very happy to have used it.

The same things do not last all the time, and because of this we move on with whatever becomes popular at the current time. This is another reason why we have lots of things that we no longer use. Now, not everyone operates in the same way, and so as we move on to something else, some persons would be appreciative to accept what we should be giving to them.

Giving is not about showing off, so that people can see what we are doing. It should be done without fanfare, so as to avoid advertising what has been given by you. Indeed, there are some instances when some things are given by a particular group of persons, or from their business, and so this is advertised. But if we are trying with our own hearts to be generous to those who are in need, this should be done quietly, even if we do not know who got what we gave.

We should all learn to give generously, and to give regularly. Some persons just ignore giving. Church donations are ignored, functions that are being organised to assist a particular group for some purpose are ignored as well. However, some persons are very generous, and so when they are approached they give what they can. They never ignore the idea of giving. Some persons too think they do not have enough to give, and so they do not. Whatever you have you should give, no matter how small or little it is, as giving is all about sharing with others. There should be no criticism about persons who are trying to organise something. It is all about being thankful for whatever is given by anyone.

We keep praying to the Lord for things that we need. Our prayers are being answered, and we are joyfully given. So let us give as we never know who is being sent to us, so that we can give what they have been hoping for. We give to the poor, even if it is some bread. Please take a look at all that you have, and what you no longer need, and consider giving them away.

“Give, and it will come back to you.”

  1. Surah Al-Baqara
O ye who believe! Render not vain your almsgiving by reproach and injury, like him who spendeth his wealth only to be seen of men and believeth not in Allah and the Last Day. His likeness is as the likeness of a rock whereon is dust of earth; a rainstorm smiteth it, leaving it smooth and bare. They have no control of aught of that which they have gained. Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk. (264)

And the likeness of those who spend their wealth in search of Allah’s pleasure, and for the strengthening of their souls, is as the likeness of a garden on a height. The rainstorm smiteth it and it bringeth forth its fruit twofold. And if the rainstorm smite it not, then the shower. Allah is Seer of what ye do. (265)

Would any of you like to have a garden of palm-trees and vines, with rivers flowing underneath it, with all kinds of fruit for him therein; and old age hath stricken him and he hath feeble offspring; and a fiery whirlwind striketh it and it is (all) consumed by fire. Thus Allah maketh plain His revelations unto you, in order that ye may give thought. (266)
