A YOUNG resident of Soufriere, Keisha Gustave, is the recipient of a kind donation to assist her with her studies in Taiwan. On Thursday July, 14 2016, Keisha was handed a cheque by proud sponsors.
According to the anonymous sponsors: “We are delighted to be in a position to help the most deserving people in our community. Keisha has done well and her efforts must be supported by members of the community. We wish her well in her studies and look forward to her returning to serve her country.”
Keisha is the daughter of Francisca Gustave and deceased father, Ramon Felix. In 2009, she successfully made it to the St. Joseph’s Convent (SJC) where she studied and obtained 9 passes in the 2014 CXC exams. She proceeded to continue her studies at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) where she did Geography, Physics, Mathematics, Communication Studies and Caribbean Studies.
During her time at SJC and SALCC, Keisha was an avid sportswoman. She was house captain at both schools and won the SJC Sports Woman of the Year award in 2014. In that same year, she proudly represented St. Lucia in track and field and netball at the Windward Islands School Games in Dominica. Besides her love for sports, Keisha also found time to play the steel pan and thus between 2011 and 2012 she was an active member of the Diamond Steel Orchestra.
In March 2016, she applied for and was successful in receiving a scholarship from the Republic of China (Taiwan) to study at the Fu Jen University. Keisha is earmarked to leave the island in late August.
Keisha was full of gratitude for the donation and promised to help others when she would be in a position to. “I am very thankful to the folks who decided to assist me with my education. Your investment in the education of young minds of the community is notable and will redound to the benefit of all. I promise that I will put the monies into good use as I embark on this seminal journey,” she said. “Rest assured that your assistance has triggered the philanthropy in me so I look forward to repaying your kindness by assisting others when I will be in a position to do so myself”, she added.
The sponsors who prefer to remain unmentioned have pledged to continue assisting other deserving and outstanding young citizens whenever able. They also wish to encourage other potential sponsors to invest in the human capital of the country.
According to the sponsors, every stone that is removed in the way of a potential scholar is a doorway opened to the future.
