BUSINESSMAN Peterson Francis is to become the new Mayor of Castries.
Francis is a former member of the St Lucia Labour Party who broke ranks two years ago and joined the United Workers’ Party along with his brother Hermangild Francis.
He was to have contested the June 6 general elections on a UWP ticket in Central Castries but dropped out of the race in favour of Sarah Flood-Beaubrun who won the fight against the SLP incumbent Stanley Felix.
Now Francis is to become the city’s chief citizen. He will be sworn in as Mayor next Tuesday.
His deputy is Anselma Calderon, a former public servant. Also to be sworn in on Tuesday will be Victor Morris, a former town clerk.
Eight persons in total will be sworn in Tuesday as members of the Castries Constituency Council.
