UWP Celebration Tomorrow; Cabinet Swears-in Tuesday

NEW Prime Minister Allen Chastanet appears to be taking his time putting his first Cabinet together following Monday’s emphatic general election victory in which his United Workers Party carried away 11 seats.

Chastanet has held several rounds of discussions with his party’s election candidates since being sworn on Tuesday and word is that a new Cabinet will be announced Tuesday.

In fact, the Cabinet swearing-in ceremony traditionally held in the capital, will take place from 4:30 p.m. at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds, in Vieux Fort. The government said that to facilitate attendance, the Public Service will be closed at midday on that day, and the general public is also invited and encouraged to witness the announcement of the new Cabinet of Ministers.

There has been no indication of the allocation of portfolios so far.

Meanwhile, the victorious United Workers Party will hold a thank you rally at the Micoud Playing Field tomorrow afternoon.

The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Wednesday joined in offering congratulations to the new government on its election victory.

“More significantly, The Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Mr. Chastanet on his appointment as Prime Minister of St. Lucia and wish him God’s blessings and guidance as he moves forward and leads the country. The Chamber of Commerce also extends congratulations and best wishes to the entire Cabinet team”, a Chamber statement said.

It said the organization looks forward to a “cordial and productive working relationship” with this new government as we all seek to develop St. Lucia and improve the quality of life of all St. Lucians. “We stand prepared to play our part in a constructive manner as a partner in the development process and pledge to continue to represent the legitimate interests of our members and the wider private sector of St. Lucia”, the Chamber said as it also requested a meeting with Chastanet at his earliest convenience to chart a way forward to strengthen public/private sector partnership for national development.
