Street Football: New Champion To Be Crowned

IN front of an appreciative crowd at the Vieux Fort Multi-Purpose Court former Guinness Street Football Champions in 2011 Fantastic out of Soufriere emerged champions for the second time on Sunday with a 1 – 0 result over Can’t Take Your Cries in the finals, a goal courtesy Sage Felix.

Sixteen teams took part in the finals on Sunday, but when the dust was settled Fantastic collected $6,000.00 for their win and in the process earns the bragging rights to represent St. Lucia this coming weekend in the Caribbean finals scheduled for the Ramp in Rodney Bay.
Meanwhile, results in matches played on the night – In Game 1 defending champions Veterans 2, Die In the Ring 1. The goal scorers for Veterans Jonathan Alfred and John Crafton, while Keron King pulled one back for Die in the Ring.

Last Minute had the better of Italist 1 – 0 in Game 2, the goal scorer Jamal Descartes. In game 3, Rovers eased past Soccer Stars 2 – 0, the goal scorer Pecus Antoine. Pumas had a similar margin of victory over Crank Boyz courtesy double strike from Dillon Sonson in Game 4.

In Game 5, Fantastic and U.T.L played to a goalless draw at the end of regulation time. At the end of sudden death it was Fantastic 1 – U.T.L. 0. In Game 6, Can’t Take Our Cries whipped Ti La We 4 – 1; the goal scorers for Can’t Take Our Cries – Antonio Kidd 2 and one each for Cleophas Charles and David Edward; while Thaddeus Faucher pulled one back for Ti La We in a losing effort.

In Game 7, three strikes from the boots of Ridel Stanislas to secure his hat – trick was enough to see Yo Peh defeating Winsville Empire and to secure a quarter final spot. In Game 8, Snipers had the better of Agard 1 – 0, the goal scorer Jonah Antoine.

In Quarter Finals action, Game 1 – Veterans 1 – Rovers 0, the goal scorer Romel Felix. Game 2 – Last Minute nosed ahead in a penalty shootout over Pumas 1 – 0. Game 3 Fantastic 1 versus Yo Peh 0, the goal scorer Sage Felix and Game 4 – C.T.Y.C held their nerve to beat Snipers 1 – 0 in a another penalty shootout.

In Semi Final action, Game 1 – Fantastic continued their good run of form defeating the reigning Caribbean champions Veterans 1 – 0, Troy Simon was the goal scorer, while C.T.Y.C won over Last Minute via an Own Goal to secure a place in the final.
