THE EDITOR:
Subsequent to the original date of June 21, 2016 for the general elections, the SLP administration has now revisited their option and the new date will be November 14, 2016 as the number of issues facing the SLP include a proxy war with the media which is taking a significant toll on the party. The fact that a number of SLP foot soldiers have been called up for duty is tantamount to a serious stage of panic. The likelihood of any change of heart from the media is not in the cards for a number of reasons.
Firstly, the staunch media personnel on island have witnessed a concerted effort by this administration for several years to muzzle the media and this has not gone down well. The media have bided their time and will eventually have their say. For several years, the SLP mastered the art of controlling the phone lines to block genuine callers while on the other hand their hacks have made a mockery of the system when their own members are hosting a programme. Saint Lucians have seen through the modus operandi of their behaviour and decided to leave them alone and allow the system to remain faked and pulverized.
Listening to the carnival atmosphere which took place Tuesday evening last week when Clinton Reynolds had his show was just amazing. Every single caller had a go at Reynolds to discredit the guy but little did the callers realise that the public at large recognized their negative strategy ultimately making Reynolds a martyr.
The overflowing war chest of funds is welcomed by the electorate during this silly season but once bitten twice shy and the greater number of Saint Lucians who supported the SLP for five years will no longer be fooled another five years. To the SLP, we say goodbye and reflect on the damage done to fair Helen from 2011 to 2016 while revisiting the words of the Mighty Pelay – November 14, 2016 will surely be Al Qaeda day when 11 go get hit.
