IT was a gala evening with delectable meals, great music and sophisticatedly dressed staff.

On Saturday December 12, 2015, the Soufriere Foundation held its Christmas Staff Awards and Recognition Dinner under the theme “Celebrating our own.” The event which took place at the MorneCoubaril Estate was to celebrate the commitment, dedication, loyalty and unremitting hard work of the employees.

During the event, a number of persons were awarded in various categories: long serving staff, best tour guide, best warden, best auxiliary staff, best accounts clerk, best administrative staff, best radio personality, best hostess, best supervisor and employee of the year. In order to arrive at an award, each departmental supervisor was given the task of nominating their best employee per function. Thereafter, a five member committee of senior managers made the final selection.

“The employees who were recognized maintained a high level of performance and productivity, showed dedication and passion for their work, manifested a willingness to go beyond the call of duty and reflected a positive attitude towards their work all times,” said the Soufriere Foundation’s Projects and Operations Manager, Mr. Dominic Alexander.

Also present at the event was the Parliamentary Representative, Harold Dalsan; chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Methodius Claircin; Chief Executive Officer, Walter Francois, and other members of the board of directors.

During his presentation, the Chairman remarked;, “It is through your hard work that the organization has been able to embark on its many community projects and flagship programmes. And, that while your effort has always been valued, I accept that it has not been adequately publicly recognized. So this event marks a turnaround in our journey together.”

According to Chief Executive Officer, Francois, “the staff awards ceremony this year, is truly the beginning of staff recognition on an annual basis. “We will implement the recognition of an employee of the month which will feed into the final decision at the end of the year, he said.”

Francois went on to urge all employees to be forever on their guard because their behaviour, skills and professionalism will be monitored even more closely in order to select the employee of the month which will assist in selecting the employee of the year.

This year’s Employee of the Year award went to 88.5 Soufriere FM Station Coordinator, Mr. Lester Cazaubon. Awards were also given to Lennox Perpie, Best Supervisor; Barney Mesmain, Best Tour Guide; Valarie Andrew, Best Auxiliary Staff; JannaliaLamontagne, Best Radio Personality; Cheryl Mathurin, Best Accounts Staff; Latoya Martial, Best Security Staff; Tamancia Francois, Best Administrative Staff, and Ndela Nicholas, Best Hostess. All awardees were presented with a plaque and a generous cheque.

Also recognized during the event for 20 or more years of service to the organization were Thomas Prospere, RuthyVictorin, Clevana Nicholas, John Emmanuel, Sirmantha Denys and Pontian Simon.

The Soufriere Foundation is a non-profit company located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, cultural, human resource, tourism and infrastructure development in the Soufriere area. The organization which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Centre, Soufriere jetties and 88.5 Soufriere FM.
