Schools Sports Launching Today

THE Beausejour Indoor Facility will be a hive of activity today when the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports stages the formal opening ceremony for the commencement of the Schools Sporting programme.

Corporate St. Lucia continues to play a major part in the National Schools Sports programme with a number of sponsors supporting this year’s events.

The St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC), Consolidated Foods Limited Ltd (CFL), are again title sponsors for some disciplines, while telecommunications company Digicel is coming on board for the duration of the year.

Massy United Insurance, one of the longest standing sponsors involved in schools sports through the under-19 cricket competition is continuing its commitment. The Windward and Leeward Brewery, Bank of St. Lucia, Paradise Water, Winfresh (H2O) (LIME), Sandals and Peter and Company Limited, are all in the sponsors list for this year’s programme.

Director of Youth Development and Sports Jim Xavier said, “The Ministry thoroughly endorses and welcomes sponsorship from corporate St. Lucia as government does not have sufficient funding to run sporting programmes and as a result we are very appreciative of the support given by them”.
