GROS ISLET and Soufriere will clash in the final of the St.Lucia Football Association Inter District Under – 18 male football tournament following victories on Sunday over Canaries and Dennery respectively.
In front of a well supportive crowd of fans at the Gros Islet Playing Field, Soufriere edged out Dennery 2 – 1. Dennery opened the scoring through their No. 14 Newton Marshall in the 15th minute and that’s how the scoreline remained -up until the half time whistle. Despite several goal raids by Soufriere.
On the resumption the pace rose a few notches, but in the process both teams squandered a number of scoring opportunities. Soufriere’s No.14 Riquelme Sylvester finally found the back of the nets for the much deserved equalizer in the 85th minute and was again in the thick of things in the 90th minute when he struck one past the Dennery custodian to seal the victory.
In the second encounter it was all Gros Islet as they drubbed Canaries 5 – 0. The half time score was 3 – 0 with goals from No.11 Tev Lawrence in the 7th minute, No.17 Nictus Lawrence in the 13th minute and No.8 Kadeem Ellis in the 40th minute.
In the 45th minute of play Gros Islet’s No.16 Raphael Largen was issued a red card by Referee Vivian Robinson for unsportsmanship behaviour (spitting on a Canaries player).
Going into the second half Gros Islet added two more goals to their tally with No. 11 Ted Lawrence and No.17 Nictus Lawrence, the scorers.
