Football Around The Island

OVER the next two days football fans in a number of communities around St. Lucia will have a lot to cheer about as a number of matches are scheduled in the Football Association’s Inter District Under – 18 men’s tournament. Then there is the commencement of the Roseau Valley Knock – Out Tournament, the opening of the Laborie League, the Soufriere Premier League District Representative Cup and the Plante’s Place Final in Dennery.

In the SLFA tournament matches will be played as follows:

Today in the Southern Zone at the Augier Playing Field, Soufriere will come up against Choiseul from 2:00 p.m.; while from 4:00 p.m. host Laborie will meet Vieux-Fort South.

In the Eastern Zone at the Micoud Playing Field, Dennery and Mabouya Valley will clash from 2:00 p.m., while Desruisseaux will meet home team Micoud from 4.00 p.m.

Tomorrow in the Northern Zone, at the Marchand Grounds, Gros-Islet will come up against Castries from 2:00 p.m.; while La Clery and Marchand will clash from 4:00 p.m.

The Roseau Valley Football League will today commence the Club Knock – Out championships at the Marigot Playing Field. At 2:00 p.m. Marigot FC plays J. Connection FC and from 4:00 p.m. RVFL under – 18 goes against Derandeau FC. The winners of the above mentioned games will advance and be assigned a designated slot in the fixtures.

Tomorrow, 23, Dominators play C.T Foundation from 2:00 p.m; while T. Valley FC meets RV Juniors from 4.00 p.m.

The Soufriere Premier League District Representative’s Cup continues today at the Soufriere Mini Stadium from 6:00 p.m. when Fond Gen Libre plays River Roots, while from 8:00 p.m. Fay Stars battles S.Y.O.

Tomorrow, 23, at the same venue Jacques meets Ghetto Stars from 6:00 p.m., and Black Panthers plays Market Road from 8:00 p.m.

Exciting Football comes to Laborie with the staging of “The American Classic Laborie Football League Competition”, from today August 23 to mid October and featuring nine teams from the village.

The competition is a collaborated effort between the Laborie Youth and Sports Council and SMJ Beverages, the sponsor.

Today will see a march past of all participating team from the Market Square to the Laborie Playing Field. This will be followed by a Soccerama among Laborie football talent.

Meanwhile, the Plante’s Place under – 19 Football Competition will culminate tomorrow at the Dennery Playing Field with the third place playoff and the grand final.

From 2.00 p.m. Wisdom 18 Plus will play Piton Travel Young Stars in the Third Place Playoff and from 4.00 pm D.C.Y.O will take on Hill Top Ballers in the grand final.

The prize-giving ceremony will be held immediately following the final.
