300 Coming For Annual Utilities Festival

THE Sports Clubs of the St Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) and the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO), have come together to host the 26th Annual Caribbean Utility Employees Association (CUEA) Easter Festival in Saint Lucia starting today and ending Easter Monday.

The CUEA boasts a membership of 18 utility employee clubs from 13 Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, Trinidad, Saint Vincent, Barbados, St. Kitts, Dominica and Antigua among others. The Clubs’ membership varies among the water, electricity and telecommunication sectors.

The Festival is held annually in a different member country and is expected to bring major economic benefit, from the influx of over 300 visitors to the island.

Its format will include the annual general meeting, a community project, island tours, sports day, a cook out, a costume party, cultural and social nights, and a shopping day. Participants will also see presentations by the St. Lucia Tourist Board on the St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival as well as a few carnival bands, with a view to offering special packages and incentives to encourage their return to the island.

The theme for this year’s Festival “Unity in Utilities,” is in line with the mandate of the CUEA which is to bring employees of Caribbean utilities together to engage in a series of sporting, cultural and community service activities and foster the sharing of experiences and information among participating islands.

The event is sponsored by the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited, the Water and Sewerage Company, the St. Lucia Tourist Board, Bay Gardens, Exelsigns, 4Imprint USA, The Body Holiday LeSport, OHM International, Coconut Bay, Chemico, Windward & Leeward Brewery Ltd., AMR Pipeline Products Company UK, Ramco Plastics, Winman Ltd. and St. Lucia Distillers.
