Open Campus Team Mentors BTC Teens

MEMBERS of The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia Guild Chapter, in collaboration with The UWI Alumni Association recently paid a special visit to the Boys Training Centre at MassadeGros Islet.

The purpose of the visit was to spend time mentoring the teens as well as to present a donation of some essential supplies to the Centre. The visit was held prior to the facility’s 55th Anniversary observance.

The visit commenced with introductory remarks by Guild Chair, Kish Montoute, followed by some upbeat icebreakers conducted by Secretary, MerliciaMelius. The very energetic youngsters were then addressed by guest speaker, Sherlon Leon, who engaged them with a presentation themed around “determination and self-belief.” The group then participated in an activity aimed at illustrating that things which at first seem impossible are in fact possible, if we only apply ourselves and remain focused.

Care packages were then presented to Centre representative, Mr Elvin Germain by Alumni Contact, Lydia Dariah, Kish Montoute, and Janelle Sargusingh, former Guild Chair. Also present was Guild Treasurer, Ms.Jeanique Louis.

The visit continued with a social segment during which the entire group enjoyed some light refreshment, played a variety of board games and engaged in other recreational activities. The activity culminated with the very talented youngsters playing their various musical instruments and serenading the entire group with Caribbean medleys. The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by the youngsters, and was an experience that the visiting UWI students will always cherish.
