LAST Sunday more than 150 children from Soufriere descended on the grounds of Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School to enjoy the annual Christmas Party.
The event which is hosted by the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation brings together the less fortunate children of the community to enjoy the foods and drinks associated with the Christmas season.
As customary, children selected by their principals from Fond St. Jacques, Etangs, Bouton and Soufriere schools came ready to party – and that they did. They were kept on their toes throughout the four hour event by DJ Terrick of Wiggy Sounds.
To add more pizzazz to this year’s event, face painting and the bouncing castle were introduced. Both proved to be huge favourites of the children causing the area’s hosting these activities to be a constant hive of activity.
Under the fast fading light, Santa Claus started delivering gifts. Regardless of sex or age, every child was treated to a Christmas present and a snack pack. The joyous smiles on the faces of the young ones spoke volumes about their happiness and satisfaction.
The event is organized by the Soufriere Foundation’s Social Committee and is in its fifth year. Annually, it receives receives sponsorship from several local philanthropic businesses.
“The Soufriere Foundation is deeply grateful to the staff and sponsors for their continuous involvement. Without their support and commitment this event would not have grown into what it is today,” said Walter Francois, Soufriere Foundation Chief Executive Officer.
